MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 10, 1995
and 3 foot shoulders on the Maplewood side.
Scalze pointed out that this was one of the options
that the County had presented to the City previously.
Scalze also pointed out that there are concrete curbs
along some areas of Keller Parkway, and she questioned
that the County would remove these curbs to narrow the
width of the road. Scalze also pointed out that the
Maplewood side of the street has some steep banks along
Keller Parkway. Therefore, 3 foot shoulders may make
sense along these banks. However, the lake side, which
lies within Little Canada, does not have these
conditions to deal with. Therefore, there are some
arguments for varying shoulder widths.
Morelan pointed out that if five foot shoulders make
sense on Keller Parkway between Little Canada Road and
Arcade Street, they make sense along the stretch
between County Road C and County Road B-2.
Fahey stated that he would be willing to support a
narrower width, but understands that he is in the
minority.
Pedersen asked if Maplewood approves 3 foot widths and
Little Canada approves 5 foot widths, will the result
be something in between.
Scalze pointed out that the County has indicated that a
variable shoulder width is workable, however, that is
not their preference.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 95-5-126 - INSTRUCTING CITY STAFF TO
INSTRUCT RAMSEY COUNTY TO CONSTRUCT FIVE FOOT PAVED
SHOULDERS ON ALL SECTIONS OF KELLER PARKWAY AND ARCADE
STREET SOUTH OF THE SPOON LAKE BRIDGE LYING WITIiIN
LITTLE CANADA WHICH IS CONSISTENT WITH EXISTING PAVED
SHOULDERS ALONG KELLER PARKWAY AS WELL AS BRIDGE DECKS
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Morelan.
Ayes (5) Scalze, Morelan, Fahey, Pedersen, LaValle.
Nays (O).
