MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 24~ 1995
like. Keis asked if the direction is not set now, how
will the City ever get there. Keis used Little Canada
Road west of the freeway as an example. Merely fine-
tuning the plan will not be adequate in some areas.
Morelan pointed out there is a need to take the
existing Comp Plan, look at the areas in need of change
and concentrate on those areas. Rice Street and Little
Canada Road are the primary examples. There are other
areas of the City, however, that will not require much
time.
Fahey pointed out the Commission's discussion of the
Industrial property at Edgerton and County Road D.
Fahey pointed out that the property owner purchased
this property as industrial, and he did not want to
battle the property owner to rezone it.
Keis pointed out the property is totally out of
character with the rest of the neighborhood. Some time
in the future that property should go back to
residential, and that is why the Planning Commission is
addressing the site in their Comp Plan review.
SHOREVIEW The City Administrator reported that the Sheriff's
ORD=NANCE Department has requested the City adopt an ordinance
similar to one Shoreview has which allows them to tag
unlicensed vehicles on private property.
LaValle expressed concern with this request pointing
out that during winter months when people are on
extended vacations, this could pose a problem. Tags
may expire when property owners are out-of-town, and
ticketing these vehicles will only upset the owners.
LaValle noted that the City has an ordinance which
prohibits property owners from storing junk vehicles on
private property. LaValle felt enforcement of that
ordinance was sufficient.
Scalze reported there has been discussion of this issue
at Community Pride Committee meetinqs. Montreal Courts
management is looking for a way to solve a problem with
storage of unlicensed vehicles in their parking lots.
LaValle felt the existing City ordinance would address
this problem, and there was no need to create another
ordinance. LaValle pointed out that Montreal Courts
would have the authority to have unlicensed vehicles
tagged, and expressed concern that they want to shift
the responsibility to the City.
18
