MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 24, 1995
Morelan asked for information on when and how the old
fire station committee was established.
The Administrator reported that 3 or 4 years ago the
committee was formed to discuss space allocation of the
old fire station. The committee was also involved
somewhat when the City was putting together a grant
application for renovation of the space. Prior to this
recent meeting, the committee had not met for over a
year.
Scalze reported that in addition to representation of
various City groups and departments, she and the Mayor
have served on the committee.
The Administrator reported that the committee was
reconvened in order to prepare for putting together a
request for proposals for architects. Staff thought it
would be wise to get the comments of the various qroups
and departments on their space needs. The
Administrator pointed out that a final determination
has not been made on space allocations at the old fire
station. Staff and the committee are aware of the
storaqe needs of the LCRA, and the Administrator
thought those needs could be accommodated. The
Administrator pointed out that the City must move to
hire an architect and begin spending the Community
Development Grant money it has been awarded.
Morelan stated he was not comfortable with the process
since he is not very familiar with it. Morelan stated
that he would have been very interested in
participating in the process, but had not known the
committee would be meeting.
Fahey pointed out the City needs to move forward and
get a design firm working on the project.
Scalze pointed out the driving force is ADA
requirements. These requirements must be met before
the City can continue to use the old fire station.
Morelan asked the impact to the Public Works Department
in movinq out of the old fire station space.
The City Administrator pointed out that this will not
happen immediately, and staff will evaluate the options
available. These options range from constructing a new
public works garage to the construction of some new
storage space.
20
