MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 24~ 1995 <br />The Administrator pointed out that it is a future qoal <br />of the Historical Society to expand into the upper <br />level of the old fire station. <br />Morelan asked if the Historical Society had a <br />legitimate need for that entire space, pointing out the <br />additional expense to the City to relocate Public <br />Works. <br />Fahey pointed out that Public Works will continue to <br />use the old fire station for the short-term. Fahey <br />also reported that Canadian Days is contemplating <br />adding on to the existing garage in Spooner Park for <br />additional storage space, and perhaps something can be <br />done in conjunction with the LCRA to accommodate both <br />groups' needs. Fahey pointed out the City was awarded <br />the grant 1 1/2 years ago, and needs to get going on <br />the design work for renovation of the space. <br />Morelan was concerned about justifying allocation of <br />the entire upper level of the old fire station to the <br />Historical Society in view of the fact it will cost the <br />City money to replace space currently used by other <br />groups. <br />Scalze pointed out the park and recreation storage <br />space is not efficient at the old fire station, and <br />should be located closer to the usage. <br />Fahey suggested that Morelan be added as a committee <br />member. <br />Morelan pointed out the May <br />deviation from the original <br />eastern bay to the LCRA. <br />19th report is a major <br />plan which allocated the <br />John Keis reported the LCRA has storage space all over <br />the City and are looking to consolidate this storage. <br />Keis also pointed out the kitchen equipment at the old <br />fire station has been donated to the LCRA. <br />Fahey replied that the basement has been reserved for <br />the continued use of the LCRA. The architect must be <br />hired and begin working on making the old fire station <br />space handicapped accessible. Fahey acknowledqed that <br />everyone is competing for space. He suggested if <br />Public Works moves out of the building, it may be <br />possible to allocate space to the LCRA. <br />Scalze suggested the old fire station is not the place <br />to have huqe units of dead storage space within <br />21 <br />
