MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 22, 1995
Finsness replied that the existing front entrance to
the basement could remain.
Kathy Hanson stated that the Historical Society has no
objection with LCRA's having cold storage in the west
bay.
Fahey felt it was obvious that the City had to look for
other space for storage of City equipment. Fahey did
not believe installation of a fire wall to separate
uses was a good plan over the long-run.
Ray Hanson suggested that the existing character of the
facade of the building be retained as a tribute to the
firemen who built the building. Hanson stated that he
would like the siren to remain on the top of the
building. Hanson further suggested that the Historical
Society could provide storage for some of the early
equipment the Fire Department used. Hanson suggested
if the overhead door for the east bay is eliminated,
perhaps a 36-inch, handicapped accessible service door
could be installed.
Hanson stated that he would like to see a building
constructed in Spooner Park or Pioneer Park for Public
Works and Park & Recreation storage. Perhaps this
building could be large enough so Canadian Days could
have some storage area.
Fahey agreed that that should be considered rather than
Canadian Days continuing to rent storage space.
Scalze agreed it would be best to have Public Works,
Park & Rec, and Canadian Days equipment stored at the
park where it is used.
LaValle asked if there was a possibility that Canadian
Days would furnish funding toward the cost of a storage
building.
Kathy Hanson replied that Canadian Days has several
ideas for improvements at Spooner Park, which include
parking improvements and a building with storage and
limited kitchen facilities. Hanson replied that it was
possible that Canadian Days would provide funding for a
shared building.
Fahey pointed out the $5,000 donation made by Lake
Owasso toward the old fire station project. Fahey
suggested that one of the next steps would be to
solicit funds from every charitable organization
7
