MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 22, 1995
operating in the City. Fahey envisioned two projects.
One would be renovation of the old fire station, and
the other establishing a facilities committee to assess
the space needs of Public Works, Parks & Recreation,
LCRA, and Canadian Days.
The City Administrator asked if space at the upper
level of the old fire station would be allocated for
LCRA and/or Public Works.
LaValle did not believe the City should store vehicles
in the building if that violates the code.
Fahey suggested that an option would be to add on to
the Spooner Park garage.
Jim Morelan felt it was logical to combine Public Works
and Park storage.
Fahey again suggested that a committee be formed to
study these storage needs. That committee could
consist of the City Administrator, Public Works
Superintendent, Parks & Recreation Director, and
members of the interested public.
LaValle pointed out that it is known there is a need
for additional storage space. The question is the
location. LaValle suggested that Canadian Days be
included given their need for storage and their
willingness to assist with costs.
Kathy Hanson stated that Canadian Days is looking for
storage and limited kitchen facilities at Spooner Park,
as well as bathroom facilities and additional parking.
It was noted that a shelter-type improvement with a
limited kitchen could be leased out during the summer
months.
DeLonais asked what the upper floor of the Pioneer Park
building was used for.
Fahey replied that it is used as a tournament
headquarters, for coaches' meetings, as a rest area for
umpires. Fahey felt the facility was under-utilized
due to the limited amount of tournament usage in
Pioneer Park.
Morelan suggested that funding issues need to be
addressed pointing out that it seems the architect
believes improvements could exceed the City's budgeted
amount. Morelan suggested another cost of the
8
