MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 22, 1995
renovation would be replacement facilities for Public
Works and Parks & Rec. Morelan suggested these
replacement facilities would be needed at once as it
did not appear it would be possible to phase in a
relocation. Morelan also suggested the amount of
participation that Canadian Days is willing to provide
should be determined.
Scalze suggested that staff ineet with the groups
involved, analyze the situation, and come back with a
recommendation and cost estimate.
Fahey felt the Council should be involved, and stated
that he did not want to exclude anyone from the
process.
Scalze felt the involvement of the Mayor made sense.
Fahey suggested the first step would be to determine
needs and then define a plan. Once that is done,
funding should be addressed. Fahey suggested
charitable organizations be approached for
participation. The City also has the ability to bond
for an improvement.
Morelan felt some cost estimates were necessary up
front.
Scalze pointed out that block grants are only available
for handicapped accessibility improvements. However,
there may be other grant programs which could be
pursued.
Fahey suggested that a committee representing Canadian
Days, the Historical Society, LCRA, and perhaps the
Fire Department be formed to discuss facility needs.
Fahey felt it would be helpful to get all the groups
together since there may be overlapping needs that
would be identified.
Fahey suggested the architect commence work on the
developing a list of recommended steps.
Donovan asked whether existing walls in the fire
station were fire-rated.
Fahey pointed out the building is sprinkled, however,
interior walls were not fire-rated. Fahey noted the
damage water can cause documents.
Jim Morelan suggested that it wouldn't take too much to
9
