TO REVIEW THE COMMUNITY SURVEY RESULTS
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersene
Ayes (5) LaValle, Pedersen, Morelan, Scalze, Fahey.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
ARCHITECTURAL The City Planner reported that the Planning Commission
STANDARDS discussed the feasibility of imposing architectural
standards through a design review process on the Rice
Street/Little Canada Road gateway area. The Planner
stated that as a result of the discussion with the
Planning Commission, he would prepare an outline of the
process to be followed for establishing design review
standards. This would be reviewed and acted upon by
the Planning Commission before detailed ordinance work
would begin.
Fahey suggested that architectural design review is
appropriate where there is a clear consensus of what
the City wants. Fahey stated that at this point he is
not sure what sort of architectural standards the City
might agree on for the Rice Street/Little Canada Road
area.
Scalze asked what a design review process would
involve.
The City Planner replied that the City would review the
actual architecture of a project and determine whether
it meets the City's objectives for design, lay-out, and
theme. It may be necessary to appoint an additional
board or commission, or assign the responsibility of
design review to an existing commission.
Fahey suggested the City would have to review various
architectural styles and then determine what it feels
is appropriate.
The Planner indicated that this would be part of the
process.
22
