MINi7TES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />SEPTII'4BER 5, 1995 <br />Fahey questioned the wording of #8. Schroeder <br />suggested that striking the phrase "access to" made the <br />principle stronqer. <br />Pedersen questioned #4, pointing out that there are a <br />lot of areas within the City which could be considered <br />as centers and focus of community life. These include <br />City Aall, parks, and schools. <br />Mary Alden suggested that the principle be reworded to <br />reflect that the area is "a" center for community <br />rather than "the" center. <br />Morelan questioned #6 asking why development shouldn't <br />be more than two to three stories in height. <br />Schroeder replied the reason is that parking could not <br />be accommodated short of building ramps or providing <br />underground parking, both of which would be cost <br />prohibitive. <br />Morelan asked why such projects are economically <br />feasible somewhere else. <br />Schroeder replied that they are hearing that developers <br />cannot afford these improvements given the current <br />conditions of the market. <br />Fahey felt it was more critical to get a good mix of <br />retail development versus development of parking ramps. <br />Fahey asked what was meant by the word "integrity" in <br />#10. <br />Schroeder replied that he meant something that will not <br />change in the next 15 to 20 years. Something that will <br />be just as good then as it is today. Schroeder <br />suggested that he clarify this principle more. <br />Lendway asked about the architecture that will be <br />required for the redevelopment of the Market Place <br />Shopping Center. <br />Fahey replied that the strategy will be to work with <br />the new owner in his renovation of the Market Place. <br />Lendway asked if the architecture of the redeveloped <br />Market Place will dictate the architecture for the rest <br />of the area. <br />Schroeder replied that it will not.
