MINUTES CITY COUNCIL OCTOBER 11, 1995 license based on a criminal history. The Attorney noted that the criminal history would have to have a relationship to the business. The Attorney again stated that he did not see a liability problem for the City in issuing the licenses. Requiring proof of current insurance for the life of the license would be sufficient. LaValle noted that once the license is issued, the driver could cancel insurance coverage. The Attorney felt all the City could do is require a Certificate of Insurance covering the taxi license period. Fahey agreed, pointed out the same issue applied when the State issues a license. Proof of insurance is required at the time of license issuance. Fahey suggested that the taxi cab license fee be increased to $50. LaValle suggested $75. The City Administrator suggested that he review the taxi cab license ordinance to make sure that provisions of the ordinance are being complied with and to give staff time to come back with a recommendation on whether or not additional provisions are needed. The consensus of the Council was to increase the taxi cab license fee to $50. If there are additional ordinance amendments required, staff should make that recommendation at a future meeting. CIGARETTE Council also discussed the issue of cigarette license LICENSE FEE fee at the budget workshop preceding the regular meeting. Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 95-10-232 - INCREASING THE CIGARETTE LICENSE FEE TO $50.00 PER YEAR EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 1996 The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen. Ayes (5) Fahey, Pedersen, LaValle, Morelan, Scalze. Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. 9
