MINi7TE5
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 25, 1995
Eugene Leo, 66 LaBOre Road, pointed out the new
development along Maple Lane and stated that having a
small park in the neighborhood would be good given the
large number of small children in the area. Leo stated
that he was not aware of any consideration of
developing a park on the McNamara property. Leo asked
if the trapezoid-shaped parcel was donated to the City
for a park.
Fahey replied that the trapezoid-shaped parcel was
donated to the City as part of the development of the
area in lieu of a cash park charge. Fahey reported
that the purpose of the survey was to determine whether
the neighborhood preferred to see a neighborhood park
developed on the trapezoid parcel or the McNamara
parcel. Based on the results of the survey, the
majority of the property owners were not concerned
about the sale of the trapezoid parcel since 28 surveys
were returned out of a total of 58 mailed. The survey
indicated that no response would be taken as support
for the sale.
Leo asked if the McNamara site is being considered as a
replacement for the trapezoid parcel. Leo asked how
the two sites compared with regard to ability to
develop.
Fahey pointed out that there is the potential for
larger acreage with the McNamara site.
Leo was concerned that the McNamara site is low and
there may be water problems.
Fahey pointed out that the McNamara site could be
filled and may be more suitable for a park development
than for construction purposes. Fahey felt the real
question is should there be a neighborhood park in the
area at all. And if so, which is the preferred
location.
Leo stated that he can see why the neighborhood
supported a park on the McNamara parcel. The trapezoid
parcel is located adjacent to industrial property, and
the McNamara site is more visible. Leo asked if there
was any possibility that a neighborhood park would
develop within the next six months to a year.
Fahey was not sure. Fahey asked what the Park &
Recreation Commission's recommendation was on the
issue.
4
