MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 25, 1995
The Administrator reported the Commission felt the
McNamara site was a superior location. There have been
some preliminary discussions with Mr. McNamara on the
City's acquisition of a portion of his land.
Scalze pointed out that the City has been approached by
Mr. Don Rue requesting that he be allowed to purchase
the trapezoid parcel for additional parking. Scalze
stated that in considering that request, it was thought
that the neighborhood may be better served by locating
a park on the McNamara site.
Leo asked if that was a viable alternative.
Fahey noted that the survey results show no interest in
a park on the trapezoid parcel. Whether a park is
development on the McNamara property is uncertain at
this point. If the City decides to pursue the McNamara
site, at a minimum a portion of the property will be
earmarked for park purposes while the City continues to
pursue the purchase.
Leo felt a park on the McNamara site may be viable. He
also pointed out the number of new homes recently
developed in the area and the fact that there are a
number of little children in the neighborhood. Leo
felt a small neighborhood park in the area would be
beneficial for the community.
John Goswitz, 27 Maple Lane, asked if the City intended
to retain a walking path to the Water Works property.
Fahey replied that that was correct.
Goswitz suggested that there be fencing along the
walking easement to keep children from wandering into
the industrial park parking lot.
Fahey suggested that that issue be considered by the
Park & Recreation Commission.
Goswitz stated that he supported the sale of the
trapezoid parcel since he believe it would not be a
good location for a park. There are a lot of children
in the neighborhood in the 4 to 8 years of age range.
A park on the McNamara property would be preferred
since it is more visible. Goswitz stated that his
concern was with the kind of park that would be
developed.
Fahey replied that development details have not been
5
