MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECII~SBER 6, 1995
amenities in the area.
The City Administrator stated that the Gramercy Park
information is only an example of the concept that is
being proposed.
Fifield reported that the developers have been
encouraged to come up with the financial information so
it can be determined whether or not the proposal is
feasible.
Morelan asked if this location was the best spot
available for senior housing.
Fifield replied that he liked what is being proposed,
and senior housing blends in with the other housing in
the area providing a good transition. The proposal
also makes the extension of Middle Street a reality,
and may bring redevelopment to the north and east of
this site. Senior housing would also bring more people
into the area.
Fahey asked the consensus of the Council. Fahey stated
that he liked the concept and would encourage the
developers to keep working on it.
Scalze expressed concern that the proposal might
preclude a movie theater from the area as this appears
to be the only property large enough for an
entertainment complex.
Fifield felt there were other sites that could
accommodate a movie theater. Fifield was not sure a
movie theater tucked into this area, adjacent to
housing was the best location. Fifield pointed out the
long hours a movie theater would be open in the evening
may cause problems for adjacent residential property.
Fifield asked the Council whether or not they liked the
concept. Fifield stated that he would bring the
Council~s comments and/or concerns back to the
developers.
Scalze stated that the size of the restaurant concerns
her, and felt the restaurant should be larger.
Fahey stated that it would be nice to bring the
building out to Rice Street. However, noted that the
properties abutting Rice Street in this particular area
may not be ready for redevelopment. Fahey felt a key
issue was that the road go through to Rice Street.
However, noted that it could be ended with a temporary
cult-de-sac, and the connection made at a later date.
4
