MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 10, 1996
Pedersen pointed out the amount of contributions
targeted directly to Little Canada would be less from
NSYA than they would be from LCCP.
Matson reviewed in detail NSYA~s contributions list for
1995. Matson pointed out that NSYA has been providing
services to Little Canada since 1987. Any organization
or person dealing with youth can apply to our
organization for funds. NSYA takes grant applications.
If people or organizations within Little Canada do not
apply, NSYA does not sit around and say let's give
money to Little Canada. NSYA accepts and reviews
applications. If good is being done for youth, the
application is generally approved. Matson pointed out
that $14,334 was donated to the City's 10% fund.
Matson went on to highlight numerous other donations
which have been made over the past year.
Scalze pointed out that the information contained in
the Council's agenda shows that $92,000 was donated
during 1996. Matson's listing submitted this evening
shows $141,644 of donations.
Matson explained that the listing the Council has was
only through the month of November. Additional
donations were made in December, and some donations
have been approved, but not yet paid out.
Scalze agreed that Matson has done a good job for his
organization. However, the Council must do what is
best for Little Canada's citizens. Scalze pointed out
that the one organization which has done the most for
Little Canada is Little Canada Charity Plus. Scalze
stated that the Council has had this discussion for a
long time, and it comes down to what is best for Little
Canada.
Matson asked why his organization was beinq singled
out.
LaValle replied that N5YA was not being singled out.
It just happens that their premise permit is up for
renewal.
Matson pointed out that Lake owasso's premise permit
was renewed just last summer and the City did not
penalize them. Matson felt NSYA was being penalized
for no real reason.
LaValle pointed out that the City had a grant
application denied by NSYA because it included T-shirts
for 6 to 12 adults. Reapplication was required without
8
