MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 24, 1996 <br />architect may have wanted to provide a break in the <br />look of the exterior. <br />Scalze asked if there was a practical reason for the <br />canopy, such as keeping out the rain over doorway <br />areas. <br />Hotzler replied that that was correct. <br />Pedersen asked if wood would be used on the exterior of <br />the building. <br />Grootwassink replied wood would be used in addition to <br />metal and brick. <br />Hotzler reported that the diagram shows windows on the <br />east end of the building. This is an error. There <br />will be no windows since this will be the warehouse <br />area for the Only Deals store. <br />Scalze asked if the brick would be painted. <br />Hotzler replied that the brick will not be painted, and <br />will be brown in color. <br />Pedersen was concerned that some of the wood on the <br />center is buckling. <br />Hotzler replied that the wood will be repaired and <br />painted. The color has not been determined as of yet, <br />but there will be a color scheme and the wood will <br />blend in with that scheme. <br />Morelan asked if the plans for the exterior meet the <br />City's architectural guidelines. <br />The City Administrator reported that it was his <br />understanding that the shopping center was somewhat <br />exempted from the full provisions of the architectural <br />standards. <br />Morelan asked if the exterior plans will be reviewed by <br />the architectural review committee so that the City <br />knows where the compromises are occurring. <br />The City Administrator reported that the developers are <br />anxious to put together final specifications for the <br />exterior work.
