MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 24, 1996
developers can afford the time. The Administrator
pointed out that the next Planning Commission meeting
is scheduled for February 8th.
Grootwassink reported that timing is very important,
and they would have liked to be further along at this
point than they are now. Hotzler reported that
construction on the SuperValu site is ready to start,
and they would like to get Snyders moved into their new
space in about three weeks. Grootwassink reported that
they would like to begin final drawings for the
exterior work within the next few days to a week.
Hotzler estimated it would take 4 weeks to get the
construction drawings and specifications completed so
that the project can be bid.
Morelan asked if holding up work on the exterior would
affect the ability of tenants to move into their new
spaces.
Grootwassink replied that it would.
Pedersen asked Morelan~s concern.
Morelan stated that he had a concern with the use of
wood on the exterior.
The City Planner replied that the use of wood is
allowed in limited amounts.
Pedersen asked about the exterior of the west end of
the building.
Grootwassink replied that the west end of the building
would be wood and metal.
Pedersen suggested that tearing off the wood and
painting the block was an option, but perhaps not
better than the wood.
The Planner pointed out that concrete block was not an
allowed exterior finish, but wood was.
The owners pointed out that the $200,000 will not cover
the cost of all the exterior work they have planned.
They have a bid of $140,000 for the metal portion of
the exterior. Improvements are also planned to the
lighting, sidewalks, parking lot, electrical and
9
