MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL AND PARIC & RECREATION
J21Ni7ARY 24, 1996
to add a full-time position. Fahey suggested that the
Commission identify whether there are additional needs
that should be met and how to go about meeting those
needs.
Ables agreed that the Commission should survey
residents to find out what sorts of programs they are
interested in, if they feel the program should be
expanded or changed.
Scalze suggested that the survey contain some cost
estimates for new programs.
Fahey pointed out that the 1995 Community Survey
indicated that residents are only interested in paying
more taxes for crime prevention, and the 1989 Community
Survey indicated the path around Keller Parkway.
Holm questioned the concern that the full-time position
would cost more money. Holm suggested that perhaps
funds designated for trees and park benches be
reallocated for the position.
Johnson suggested there may be grant monies available
to help underwrite the cost of the position.
Remerowski agreed that a survey should be done to
establish what people want. Remerowski sugqested that
a list of possibilities be put together along with cost
estimates.
Johnson also suggested that the survey could ask for
volunteers to help conduct these activities.
Remerowski stated that he believed programs should be
self-sustaining, and did not support the City
underwriting the cost of these programs.
Fahey pointed out that the City spends a great deal of
money maintaining its trail system, parks, and grounds.
There may be residents not using these facilities,
however, may be interested in taking a ceramics class.
Therefore, Fahey stated that he did not oppose the
City's subsidizing the programs.
Ables suggested that the
next Commission meeting,
come back to the Council
survey be discussed at the
and that the Commission will
with a plan of action.
10
