MINiITES
CITY COUNCIL AND PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION
JANUARY 24~ 1996
Scalze suggested that the Commission look at recreation
brochures from cities our size to determine the types
of programs these cities are offering.
Fahey also sugqested that the school district be
contacted to determine which sort of activities worked
and which did not.
MCNAMARA Johnson felt that a park on a portion of the McNamara
PROPERTY property was a good idea and that the City should be
moving forward on this.
The City Administrator reported that there is a
developer interested in purchasing the McNamara
property and putting in a townhome development. This
developer is aware of the City's interest in developing
a park on the property. The Administrator suggested
that working with the developer, the City may be able
to obtain the property it needs at a reasonable cost.
The property owner has been contacted regarding the
City's interest in a portion of the property for park
purposes; however, the cost quoted by the owner was
unrealistic.
Fahey stated that the Council authorized the use of the
proceeds from the sale of the trapezoid parcel to
acquire a portion of the McNamara property. The.City
has informed Mr. McNamara that its expectation is to
take a piece of the property as park dedication when
the property develops. Ultimately, the City will
obtain the property, but it may have to wait until the
property develops so that it does not pay more than it
is worth.
The Administrator reported that Mr. Rue is out-of-town
until April. The sale of the trapezoid parcel is on
the back-burner until Mr. Rue returns. The City is in
the process of having the parcel appraised, however.
TRAIL Fahey asked where the Commission was with the issue of
SYSTEM completion of the City's trail system.
Remerowski pointed out that the property owners east of
Edgerton are strongly opposed to completion of the
trail system across their property, as are the property
owners east of Payne Avenue.
11
