MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL AND PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION
JANUARY 24, 1996
Remerowski asked if the part-time assistants are on an
hourly rate, and asked how the City controls the.number
of hours per week that they can work.
The City Administrator replied that the assistants are
being paid an hourly wage effective January 1, 1996.
The Administrator pointed out that the assistants'
salaries have been budgeted for, and the Director has
to manage that budget. The status of the budget will
be monitored periodically. Based on the hours needed
to qet the job done, this might provide some
justifiaation for the Council to consider the issue of
adding a full-time position.
Scalze pointed out that the Council left open the
option that rather than two part-time people, one part-
timer may be a solution.
DeBace indicated that she is available some daytime
hours, but there may be a decrease in the number of
daytime hours she is available beginning in February.
Fahey stated that he was open to reconsider the
decision after there is a year's experience with actual
hours worked. Fahey stated that he would like tkie
Commission to focus on what programs are lacking, what
are the alternatives, and what should the City add.
Currently, the situation is not clear in terms of what
we want to accomplish with the recreation program.
Fahey reported that the City Survey showed that 76 to
80 percent of residents are happy with the parks and
recreation program. Fahey felt it was difficult to
determine what is lacking, how many people would
participate in a new program, and what value a new
program would add to the quality of life in Little
Canada.
Scalze suggested that if Roseville is offering a
program that Little Canada does not, perhaps the City
should pay the non-resident fee for a Little Canada
resident to participate in that program. Scalze
pointed out that Little Canada's recreation program
cannot be all things to all people.
Fahey pointed out that seniors are interested in more
programs, and suggested that these programs should be
self-sustaining.
4
