MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 14, 1996
School, replacing the current Public Works building and
turning the existing building over to the Historical
Society.
Fahey stated that he liked the idea of putting on an
addition to City Hall.
LaValle pointed out that that option would be very
costly.
Fahey suggested that the City needs to spend some money
to accommodate and support the organizations in the
City. Fahey pointed out the need to plan for the
future, and suggested that various City organizations
and charities may provide financial support.
Scalze pointed out that the old fire hall is best set
up for Public Works. Scalze suggested that the focus
be on that, rather than building a new Public Works
facility.
Morelan agreed that the facility was a garage and
always will be. Therefore, not the best location for
the Historical Society.
Kathy Hanson reported that the Historical Society would
like a display and genealogy room.
The City Administrator suggested if an addition is put
on City Aall for the Historical Society, it may be
necessary to change the parking lot as well. The
Administrator estimated the size of the addition at
2,000 square feet.
Fahey suggested that a feasibility study be done on a
2,000 foot addition to City Aall.
Morelan reported that some of his other ideas included
a separate building on the property the City owns
across the street from City Hall, and the City
purchasing the Maryhouse property when it becomes
available. Morelan felt, however, that the addition
onto City Aall made the most sense. It was pointed out
that a separate building would require bathroom and
parking facilities.
Kathy Aanson reported that the Historical Society needs
a good-sized room which can be divided into sections
6
