MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 28~ 1996
budget, and the Community Pride Committee proceeded on
that basis.
Fahey pointed out that since the sign was first
discussed, other needs have developed.
LaValle indicated he could support the sign if the cost
was in the $3,000 to $4,000 range.
Scalze felt the bulk of the cost would be the pre-cast
concrete.
Fahey stated he liked the desiqn of the sign, but again
pointed out the City has other higher priority needs.
Scalze pointed out the Community Pride Committee
requested funding for the sign, and that request was
approved.
Morelan pointed out that more needs have arisen since
the sign funding was approved.
Fahey stated he would like to move forward on this
issue and get an estimate of the cost of the
fabrication. Fahey also pointed out there may be some
benefactors who would be interested in assisting in the
cost of this project.
The City Administrator reported he would obtain
estimates for fabrication as well as discuss the
project with some of the City's local contractors.
STATE USE The Council reviewed the recommendation of the Parks
DEED - & Recreation Commission to allow the property on
LAKE STR. unimproved Lake Street and Park Street to be returned
PROPERTY to the State for public auction. The City currently
holds a use deed for the property for ponding and
drainage purposes. Morelan asked if there was no
potential for use of this property as a park.
LaValle pointed out there is wetland immediately
adjacent to the property, and a good portion of the
land itself is wet. LaValle felt there was very little
usable area on the site.
Morelan felt there was a need for a small park in this
area.
18
