MINUTES CITY COUNCIL MARCH 27, 1996 Finsness reviewed the renovation work planned for the old fire station. When Finsness pointed out that the estimate includes work to fire rate the stairway, Council stated it was their understanding that the stairway had to be removed. Finsness reported that in discussing this with the Building Official in more detail, since the occupancy of the upper level of the building will change, the stairway can remain. Morelan asked if analysis had been done to identify areas where modifications are needed in the building~s sprinkler system as a result of the renovations. Finsness reported that this sort of analysis will occur in the next phase of the project. Morelan asked if the cost estimate included architectural fees. Finsness replied that they did not, but felt total project costs would come in under budget. Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION N0. 96-3-74 - APPROVING RENOVATION PLANS FOR TI-IE OLD FIRE STATION AS SUBMITTED BY PAUL FINSNESS ARCHITECTS The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze. Ayes (4) Morelan, Scalze, Pedersen, Fahey. Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. The City Administrator reported that the largest cost item in the renovation is roof replacement. This work has been set up to be outside the scope of the contract in order to allow roofing contractors to bid this work independent of the other renovation work. Morelan asked if the work scope included parking improvements. Finsness replied that the only parking improvements would be two handicapped accessible spots at the lower level of the building. The area will be restriped to provide for these parking spots and the proper signs will be installed. There is some bituminous work included in the work scope to create a walkway from the two parking stalls to the new entrance area. 13
