MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 27, 1996
Morelan asked how many planters the Community Pride
Committee would like to purchase.
The Administrator replied that they would like to
purchase between six and nine. However, at the price
quoted, there is money in the budget for four.
Morelan suggested that the budget could be increased.
Morelan also felt that the Planner's suggestion of
waiting to coordinate planters with those in the
streetscape project was a good one.
Fahey suggested installation of planters in the Rice
Street/Little Canada Road area may not occur until
redevelopment begins. Fahey stated that he would like
to see the planter project up and running.
The Administrator pointed out that planters could be
purchased and placed in areas outside the redevelopment
area. The Administrator pointed out that the
streetscape work would likely not begin for at least a
year.
Morelan stated that continuity was one issue. Another
is the advantage of having the 10% Committee rank the
project in accordance with the City's policy. Morelan
stated that he saw no reason to deviate from the
policy, pointing out that the Committee is scheduled to
meet on April 15th.
Fahey stated that he saw no benefit to waiting,
pointing out the work that the 10% Committee put into
the project.
Again, Morelan pointed out that the project may only be
delayed by one month since the 10% Committee will meet
on April 15th. Morelan stated that before the Council
acts on the planter project, he would like to know what
other projects are on the 10% funding list.
Pedersen agreed, pointing out that there may be other
projects which are more important.
Fahey suggested that rather than having the project
tied to the original budget amount, if the Community
Pride Committee feels six planters are needed, that
amount of funding should be requested and prioritized
with other 10% funding requests.
Morelan suggested that staff determine how many
designated planter locations there are outside the Rice
15
