MINUTE5
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 10, 1996
active. Tschida reported it is the Historical
Society's desire to recruit more members, but they are
waiting until they have their collection a little
better orqanized.
Jean Donovan reported that she has been contacted by
Little Canada Elementary School with a request for one
of the 4th grade classes to come for a visit. Donovan
reported that the Historical Society recently
discovered they are not incorporated, therefore, there
is concern about liability issues. Donovan reported
she has obtained the necessary forms to begin the
process. However, there is concern about bringing
groups into the building until after the incorporation
process is completed. Donovan also reported that the
Historical Society is planning a pot luck supper
downstairs, and asked if that event should be
cancelled.
Fahey felt there was a concern with using the upstairs
of the old fire station for assembly purposes, but felt
the downstairs could be used.
Morelan agreed there were concerns with using the
upstairs of the old fire station for assembly purposes,
but suggested during the summer with the overhead doors
open, there was nothing wrong with bringing a school
group in.
Jean Donovan stated that she had concern with how 30-
plus children would exit the Historical Society space
in the event there was a problem. Therefore, Donovan
reported the Historical Society will bring some of
their display to Little Canada Elementary School,
rather than having the children over to the old fire
station.
There was discussion regarding the use of the lower
level of the old fire station for a pot luck dinner.
Morelan stated he recalled the County Health Department
did not have a problem with food being served in the
lower level if it is prepared off-site and brought in
and consumed. Staff indicated that they would
determine the County's position on this issue.
Pedersen pointed out the importance of preserving
current history as well as past history.
Donovan reported that they have preserved City
newspapers.
3
