MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 24, 1996
as much of the building as possible.
Scalze felt it was possible to put up an accessory
building to store a Winnebago or sailboat without
constructing a building with three floors. Scalze
pointed out that the neighbors are concerned about the
size of the building.
Fahey indicated that the City has not approved any
accessory buildings with basements. Fahey was
concerned about the three floors proposed for the
building as well as the 300 amp electrical service.
Fahey understood Mr. Battista's intended use of the
building is for personal storage, but pointed out that
the neighbors are concerned that should the property be
sold, the building would be used as a repair facility.
Fahey stated that he would like to see a building more
in keeping with the residential nature of the
neighborhood.
Battista asked if a pole barn would be acceptable.
Fahey replied that it would not. Fahey noted that an
accessory building much smaller than the one proposed
could be constructed to house a Winnebago and a
sailboat. Fahey stated that the additional floor space
of the building proposed raised concern that the
buildinq would be used for more than storage of a
Winnebago. Fahey felt a building could be designed
which would meet Mr. Battista's needs in a less
obtrusive way than the building proposed.
Fahey suggested that perhaps the ordinance should be
looked at. The original intent of the ordinance was to
provide property owners with only a single car garage
or with large lots to construct accessory buildings for
additional storage. Fahey suggested that perhaps the
intent of the ordinance should be better defined.
Fahey felt the building proposed by Mr. Battista was
too large.
Scalze, pointed out that Mr. Battista is proposing
another garage door on the lower level of the building.
Scalze also noted that Mr. Battista currently has two
double-car garages on his house.
Fahey pointed out that the Council must consider the
potential use of this additional space, noting that the
building could be used for storage of antique cars.
Battista reported that this is what his neighbor does
6
