MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 10, 1996
only face west.
LaValle asked the cost difference between a single-
sided sign and a double-sided sign. The City
Administrator estimated that difference at about
$1~500.
Morelan stated that he was not sure this was an
identif.ication sign, but rather a monument sign.
Scalze felt the sign was an identification sign that is
not a location sign. The sign is also an historical
monument displaying when the City was settled. Scalze
felt Option 1 was preferable, noting that the sign can
be incorporated into the flag pole area, resulting in
one area of focus.
LaValle pointed out that there is wiring already in
place to the flag poles, which would save the cost of
running electrical wire to another area of the lawn.
LaValle also pointed out the $1,500 savings in having a
one-sided sign.
Scalze pointed out that many people travel back and
forth on Little Canada Road. Therefore, she felt a lot
o£ people cominq from the east would be able to enjoy
the sign.
LaValle did not feel sign placement was a question of
snubbing anyone livinq on the east or west of City
Hall.
Fahey noted that the Council is assuming most of the
traffic comes from the west. Fahey suggested perhaps
the sign should face east.
Scalze pointed out the entrance to City Hall is off
Noel Drive. Therefore, anyone coming to City Hall must
turn the corner at Little Canada Road and Noel Drive.
Morelan pointed out that the entrance to City Hall
faces west.
Eahey felt the purpose of a two-sided sign would be to
make it a locational sign for people coming to City
Hall. ,Now the discussion is Por a one-sided sign,
which Fahey viewed as basically a monument siqn. Fahey
felt Option Two was a better location and would provide
visibility of the sign from both the east and the west.
Scalze stated that she could go either way, and
8
