MINU`PES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 10, 1996
suggested if the sign is placed in the Option Two
location, there should be landscaping around it to
match the flag pole area.
Fahey stated that he was more comfortable spending the
money for the sign if it has a duel purpose of being
both an identification sign and a monument sign.
Morelan indicated that he, too, could go either way on
this issue. The Option Two location may encourage
people coming to City Hall to turn at the corner.
However, it seems like Option One fits better and there
is a$1,500 savings in having a one-sided sign.
Fahey pointed out that the Community Pride Committee
intended this sign to be an identification sign and
two-sided. Fahey stated that he favored the two sided
sign because it then serves a dual purpose. Fahey
suggested perhaps this subject should be referred back
to the Community Pride Committee.
LaValle pointed out the time the Council
year tryinq to trim the budget. LaValle
City can save $1,500 with the sign being
should do that.
spends each
felt if the
one-sided, it
Fahey stated that he was not interested in spending
money for a monument sign that doesn't provide the dual
purpose of identification sign as well.
Scalze suggested that if the sign is purely a monument
sign, it could be made smaller. Scalze suqgested
perhaps the sign is too big.
Morelan stated that if the only intention is to have an
identification sign, there are a lot of other things
the City can do.
Fahey agreed the sign was pretty big to be just a
monument sign. Fahey reported that he only supported
the sign since it was to have a dual purpose and serve
as an identification sign as well. Fahey suggested
perhaps a sign is not needed at all.
Scalze felt an identification siqn was needed, pointing
out that City Hall is located in the middle of a
residential area. There are some people who are not
aware of where City Hall is.
Fahey agreed some people could drive by City Hall and
think it is an office building.
9
