MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUI~Y 24, 1996
RIGHTS-OF- Council reviewed the request of the League of Minnesota
WAY TASK Cities for fundinq in the amount of $685 to assist the
FORCE League in their efforts to implement the work plan
developed by the Rights-of-Way Task Force. The work
plan was developed to counter the challenge to cities
riqhts to manage public rights-of-way.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 96-7-180 - AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE
OF $685 TO THE LEAGUE OF MINNESOTA CITIES TO ASSIST IN
FUNDING FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TAE WORK PLAN
DEVELOPED BY THE RIGHTS-OF-WAY TASK FORCE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen.
Ayes (5) Scalze, Pedersen, Morelan, Fahey, LaValle.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
CITY CENTER Fahey reported that he discussed the City Center sign
IDENTIFICATION with Ray Hanson, Chairman of the Community Pride
SIGN Committee. It was Ray's feeling the intent was to have
a City Center identification sign which was attractive
and would create a feeling of community pride. The
intent was not to have a monument siqn that was visible
to only one side of the City. Fahey felt if the City
is going to spend the money on the sign, it should be
placed in such a way as to be visible from both sides
of the City. Fahey indicated he supported the addition
of letiering on the brick portion of the sign
indicating "City Center".
Scalze agreed the letters should be added, and pointed
out the lettering on the outside of City Hall is
attractive.
Pedersen agreed the sign should be an identification
sign. Pedersen felt Option Two was the best location
for the sign.
The Council discussed the "City Center" lettering, and
the consensus was that the City Administrator should
work with Bill Sanders to determine the appropriate
placement for the lettering.
Morelan indicated he did not think an identification
sign was needed. Morelan viewed the sign as more of a
monument sign, and felt the best location for it was
Option'1.
15
