MINU'PES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 14, 1996
5hanley reported one of the most frequent crime which
occurs in the Metro area is theft from autos. Shanley
reported that there is a need to educate the public to
not leave valuables in their cars.
Pedersen asked if the overnight parking restriction
assisted Public Works in their snowplowing efforts.
The City Administrator reported that in the past Public
Works has supported this type of ordinance.
Shanley suqgested if the City enacted the overnight
parking ban, the Department would not issue tickets
right away. Warnings would be issued and people
informed of the new ordinance.
Shanley reported that the Sheriff's Department will
enforce any ordinance that the City chooses to enact.
If the City does not enact any of these ordinance
suggestions, that is fine, too.
Scalze pointed out it is time-consuming and costly for
the Code Enforcement Officer to write letters and
follow-up on the removal of unlicensed vehicles.
Morelan agreed, but indicated he had no problem with
unlicensed vehicles which were stored inside a garage.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 96-8-184 - INSTRUCTING THE CITY ATTORNEY
TO PREPARE AN ORDINANCE AMENDMENT ALLOWING THE ISSUANCE
OF A CITATION FOR THE OUTDOOR STORAGE OF UNLICENSED
VEHICLE5
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Morelan.
Ayes (5) Scalze, Morelan, Fahey, LaValle, Pedersen.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Morelan noted that allowing right of entry by City
employees in the mobile home court for inspection and
enforcement purposes would not result in more patrol
time for the Sheriff's Department. Such an ordinance
would be another tool assisting the Sheriff's
Department in getting their job done.
Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
4
