MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
~CTOBER 9, 1996
position should remain as stated two years ago. Scalze
noted that the Council made its decision after
receiving input from Vadnais Heights, property owners
in the area, and the developer. Scalze was agreeable
to working cooperatively on the trail issue.
Pedersen pointed out that a very small percentage of
lake shore is actually in Vadnais Heights. Pedersen
noted that Twin Lake is a very small lake, most of it
is located in Little Canada, and he was not interested
in working with Vadnais Heights on something that would
have no benefit to Little Canada.
Fahey felt the lake was a joint asset that the two
cities should work cooperatively on.
Morelan pointed out that the Council explored a lot of
possibilities, and made a decision which was right for
Little Canada.
Scalze pointed out that the Parks & Recreation
Commission felt there was no need for a Little Canada
park in this location.
Fahey stated that his impression is that there will be
access to the lake regardless of whether or not it is a
cooperative venture between the two cities. Fahey felt
that by cooperating, Little Canada would end up with
something more desirable than otherwise.
Howard Remerowski stated that from the beginning
Vadnais Heights said there will be public access to
Twin Lake because this is the only access to water
Vadnais Heights has. Remerowski pointed out that there
is access to the southeast end of Vadnais Lake. He
further reported that he heard there are plans to add
fishing piers to Vadnais Lake.
Remerowski reported that there is about a mile of
frontage around Twin Lake, and only 200 feet of it is
in Vadnais Heights. Remerowski stated that Twin Lake
is a private lake at this time. Remerowski questioned
whether or not Vadnais Heights would be able to put a
public access onto Twin Lake without approval of the
DNR. Remerowski reported that Pratt Aomes would like
to developer their own park for the homes they are
constructing in this area. Approximately 65 of the
homes will be located in Vadnais Heights, and 14 to 15
will be located in Little Canada. Pratt would like
access to the lake for these homes.
24
