MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />NOVEMBER 27~ 1996 <br />the Sheriff's Department. The Community Affairs <br />Officer duties are in the area of crime prevention. and <br />working to improve neighborhood public safety. Rossman <br />reported that Tanya Preston and Dan Drake are two <br />graduates of the first Community Affairs Officer <br />Academy. Both are currently working in the community <br />and are doing a fine job. Rossman reported that <br />another Academy is scheduled to begin on February 4th. <br />Anyone interested in the program should please contact <br />the Sheriff's Department for additional information. <br />Fahey asked Ms. Preston to share some of her <br />experiences as a Community Affairs Officer. <br />Preston reported that she serves as a CAO in the <br />Montreal Courts apartment complex and in the general <br />area. She got involved in the program as a result of <br />the Sheriff's Department meeting with Montreal Courts <br />residents to teach them how to be more aware of what is <br />going on in their community. Preston reported that a <br />CAO is the eyes and ears for the Sheriff's Department <br />and is actively involved in crime prevention <br />activities. <br />Sheriff Patrusin reported that the CAO program has been <br />a tremendous support for the Sheriff's Department, and <br />it is hoped that the program will continue to grow. <br />Patrusin again mentioned the next CAO Academy is <br />scheduled to begin on February 3, 1997. The Department <br />is estimating there will be 30 participants in that <br />program. Patrusin thanked the Council for the <br />invitation this evening as well as for the support of <br />Community Affairs Officers Preston and Drake. <br />Fahey presented Certificates of Appreciation to Preston <br />and Drake. <br />PLANNED UNIT Fahey opened the public hearing to consider a Planned <br />DEVELOPMENT - Unit Development permit to operate a retail and <br />2940 RICE - incidental storage and manufacturing facility in the <br />ALL AMERICAN Planned Unit Development District as requested by All <br />RECREATION American Recreation at 2940 Rice Street. Fahey noted <br />that both the Planning Commission and the City Planner <br />recommended approval subject to compliance with the <br />recommendations of the City Planner. <br />Jerry Schiltz, All American Recreation, stated that he <br />would comply with the Planner's recommendations. <br />Scalze asked about the pool display area planned for <br />2 <br />
