MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 12~ 1997
Scalze felt the idea should be researched. Council
agreed that staff research the suggesting and come back
with details for the Council's review. Fahey suggested
that the Fire Department be contacted for input on the
use of their tables and chairs as well as LCRA for
input on security for their equipment stored in the
lower level of the old fire hall. Fahey expressed
concern with providing keys to the general public.
Morelan and Scalze agreed that the building would have
to be staffed and that keys should not be distributed
to the general public.
Council discussed the name of the old fire hall
building. Morelan suggested the name "old fire hall"
given that this name would be indicative of what the
building had been used for. Morelan pointed out that
this is the oldest public building in the City and the
name was important to retain that history. Morelan
also pointed out that in addition to being used as a
fire station, the building was also used as the town
hall.
Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 97-2-36 - DECLARING THE NAME OF "OLD
FIRE HALL" FOR THE BUILDING LOCATED AT 440 LITTLE
CANADA ROAD
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) Morelan, Scalze, Pedersen, LaValle, Fahey.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
LITTLE Council reviewed the City Administrator's report
CANADA ROAD dated February 7, 1997 regarding the alignment of
DESIGN Little Canada Road. The Administrator reported that
ISSUES Ramsey County Public works will be doing design work on
the reconstruction of Little Canada Road over the next
couple of months, and have asked for direction as to
the right-of-way alignment. Approximately 22 feet of
additional right-of-way is needed along Little Canada
Road from Rice Street to Market Place Drive. The
Administrator is recommending that the road be aligned
in such a way that right-of-way acquisition would come
from the south. This will impact The Venetian Inn
property, Lakeside Apartments, the Rutzick property,
Cardinal property and two additional houses to the
east. The impact on The Venetian Inn is of the biggest
concern. However, this property will already be
impacted given that the road reconstruction will
include installation of concrete curb and gutter.
6
