MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 14, 1997
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITYADMINI.STRATOX TO
L'XECUTE THB ACREEMENT ON I3EFIAI.F OF THE CITY
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (4) Scalze, LaValle, P'ahey, Pedersen.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
LITTL~ The City Administrator reported that the owner of the Little Canada Hall
CANADA has indicated that he would like to sell his property for $450,000. The
HALL idea of loeaCing the Historical Society in this buildin~ has been discussed.
However, the aslcing price for the building is more than what it would cost
to put ai~ addition onto the City Center. Therefore, unless there are other
programming uses for the Little Canada Hall, the Administrator did not
feel the expenditure for the building was justified.
Scalze agreed that the as]<in~ price was too lii~h. Scalze poinYed out that
some of Yl~e rented space in the buildiug will become vacant within a year,
and this may be difficult space to lease given there is no elevator to Yhe top
floor.
Pedersen asked what the Council would consider to be the right price for
tlte buildii~~.
Scalze felt that 1 price closer to the County's vlluation would be more
appropriate.
Fahey felt that unless there were additional uses for the building other than
the Historical Society, other optio~~s should be explored. Fahey felt the
building would req~iire a lot of mlintenance.
Scalze reported that the Historica( Society was shoclced at the asking price
and discow~ted tl~e entire idea based on that ~rice.
It was Yhe consensus of the Council thaY Yhe City was not inYerested in
purchase of the Little Canada Hall ui~less there was a substantial reduction
in the asking price.
OLD FI12E IIALL City staff pointed out that iu puYtin~ to~ether the use policy for the Old
Fire Hall, the use of that building as 1 stonn/emergency shelter was
omitYed. It was also pointed out that Children's Discovery has asked that
they be allowed to use the Old Fire Hall as ~ti~ emergency shelter in the
event tltat a disaster occurs at their building.
