MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 29,1997
Council will have to deal with it. The City Administrator commented that
the City will stand behind the project. The Administrator asked that
property owners cooperate in the effort and water their sod.
Fahey pointed out that if the sod dies, the sod will be taken up and the
areas seeded. Therefore, if property owners prefer the sod, they should
make every effort to take care of it.
The City Administrator reported that the City will send out a reminder
notice in the spring to property owners about the care of sod.
The Council was asked if saltin~ the streets during the winter will kill the
sod. The Public Works Director reported that they have changed the
salt/sand mixture, and there is more sand and less salt. He also reported
that the street will not be plowed to its full width this winter to protect the
edge of the curb.
Mrs. McCumber asked if damaged curbing would be replaced. The Pubiic
Works Director reported that they would look at the curbing. Anything
with major damage will be added to the contractor's punch list for repair.
Mrs. McCumber asked that the damaged curbing in front of her home be
added to the list.
Potter reported that throughout the project there were times he felt the
contractors could have been working on the project and they were not
there. Potter asked about recoverable costs and if the City will pass on
any of these costs to the property owners bein~ assessed.
Fahey stated that he did not foresee large sums of money coming to the
City in terms liquidated damaged. Fahey pointed out the $45.00 per foot
cap on the street improvement. If the City received enough liquidated
damages to cause costs to fall below the $45.00 figure, it would be
reasonable to provide a refund to property owners.
Mr. McCumber suggested the need for a trash guard over the culvert near
his property. It was fend that this cutvert was an attractive nuisance and
there would be children playing in it.
The City Administrator reported that the Pubiic Works Director would
contact the Watershed and request the installation of a trash ~uard. Fahey
agreed, stating that he favored the trashguard for both safety and
functionality.
There was no one else from the general public present wishing to
comment on this matter.
