MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 26, 1997
Street be stopped. Fahey also pointed outthatresident Milan Moravetz
raised the issue that there is a four-way stop at LaBore Road and DeSoto
Street, and that a three-way stop at DeSoto Street and Allen Avenue would
slow tra~c down on Allen Avenue.
Mr. Fahey introduced the followin~ resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOl. UTION NO. 97-11-286 - RECONSIDERING PREVIOUS
CO UNCII. ACTION WITH REGARI) TO THE STOP SIGN ISSUE AT
THE INTERSECTION OF DESOTO STREET AND ALLENAVENUE
The foregoin~ resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) Fahey, Scalze, Pedersen, LaValle, Morelan.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Fahey noted that the petition is signed by 100% of the property owners in
the area. Fahey questioned the need to stop southbound traffic on DeSoto
Street, given that this section of street is basically a driveway. LaValle
noted that a vehicle exiting a driveway is already required by traffic laws
to stop.
Morelan stated that he does not totally disagree with the request of the
property owners. However, Morelan felt that at this time the City should
take a more minimal approach. If in the future it appears that a three-way
stop is justified, then the additional stop sign should be put in. Morelan
indicated that the primary reason the stop sign were installed at LaBore
Road and DeSoto Street is because of pedestrian traffic to the park.
Morelan pointed out that the previous Public Works Superintendent
indicated that his recommendation was for temporary stop signs at Allen
and DeSoto until reconstruction of LaBore Road was completed. The
Council did not fully accept that recommendation, however, given that
there was no provision for removal of the stop signs. Morelan stated that
he did not believe a three-way stop at DeSoto and Allen was a necessity at
this time.
LaValle asked when Allen Avenue would be completed.
The City Administrator was not sure when the western portion of the street
would be completed.
Milan Moravetz pointed out that there are currently two stop signs at the
intersection, and the residents are asking for a third.
