MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 11, 1998
worst case November of 1999. The Administrator reported he informed
Wise that construction on Little Canada Road could be~in in IaCe summer
and continue into next year. Wise indicated that he understood this
timetable and could work around it.
The Administrator reported that he has ordered the necessary appraisals.
However, it may be possible to take the bank and bowling alleys out of
this equation. At this time, those appraisals will remain ordered in order
not to limit the City's options. The Administrator reported that he would
also order appraisals for Tierney's, the pawn shop, and the two Winter
parcels pendin~ outcome of discussions with the Winter's.
LaValle asked about the po~tion of the parking lot that would be needed
from the bowling alley. The City Administrator described that portion,
and repoited that he has discussed various options with the property
owner. The owner of the bowlin~ alley would like to make some upgrades
to the building, add signage, and possibly lease out part of the building for
other uses. Kim Wise has indicated that major changes would be needed
to the exterior in order for the bowling alley to fit in with the
redevelopment of the area.
In response to Gagne's question, the Administrator explained that in order
not to detract from the redevelopment area, the bowling alley will need to
be up~raded to fit with the rest of the development that occurs.
Fahey pointed out that the City needs to contact the Winters, owners of
Tierney's, and the owners of the pawn shop to determine their interest in
selling. Again it was noted that the theater needs a 17 acre site. There are
approximately 12.43 acres south of Little Canada Road. The theater itself
will require 10 acres, and associated development will occur on the
remainder of the acreage.
Pedersen asked about the theater straddling Little Canada Road. The
Administrator reported that Cinemark does not want the back of the
theater up against Rice Street.
Scalze suggested there was a big buy-out required for the south site. The
Administrator reported that there is about $SOO,OOO less in buy-out on the
south site than the north based on our initial estimates.
Again Fahey suggested the need to talk to the property owners involved
and determine their positions on being part of this project.
3
