MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 25, 1998
up for a short time was not the problem. Some of real estate signs are put
up and left up until the house is sold.
Mahai pointed out that the Sheriff"s Department has a program in place
which gets rid of illegal signs, and Mahai felt this program has made a big
difference to the appearance of the City. Mahai stated that there really
does need to be enforcement behind the City's ordinances. Mahai felt the
illegal signa~e degrades the quality of life in the City.
Fahey felt this was a balancing act, and pointed out that the ordinance
addresses some of the issues. Fahey pointed out that the ordinance
provides those people selling their homes a means to advertise an open
house. If si~ns appear in the public right-of-way, the City will address
these situations on a complaint basis. Fahey felt the ordinance was an
attempt to balance everyone's interests, and pointed out that the ordinance
does not permit off-premise real estate signs in the public right-of-way.
There was no one else from the general public present wishing to
comment on this matter.
Upon motion by LaValle, seconded by Fahey, the public hearing was
closed.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following ordinance and moved its adoption:
ORDINANCE NO. 972 - AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION
903.IIO.I3.
