MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 25, 1998
stated that he would rather wait and get a project in hand before
proceeding with the road reconstruction.
Scalze agreed
Pedersen felt there were two issues, the theater project and the
reconstnzction of Little Canada Road. The question was how long to
delay the reconstruction. Pedersen asked if delaying the reconstruction for
one year would be a problem for the County.
Fahey reported that the County would allow the City to delay the project
for a year. Fahey also su~gested that the City refocus its efforts and try to
come up with another project. The Venetian Inn would like to relocate,
and that could be accommodated with a project on the north side of Little
Canada Road. The businesses located south of Little Canada Road do not
want to move. The theater project is not going anywhere. Fahey
suggested that Cinemark be informed that if they come in with a proposal,
the City may entertain it, but it is marketing the project to others. Fahey
suggested that Sherman Rutzick be invited in to present a proposal. Fahey
further sug~ested that the City concentrate its ef~'orts on the north side of
the street, and work with The Venetian Inn to relocate them.
Morelan a~reed, but pointed out that there is still the issue of the road.
Morelan asked if there would be any variation on where the road would be
placed based on the development that takes place. The City Administrator
replied that the road could be shifted within the right-of-way, however, the
location within that right-of-way raises a number of issues. The
Administrator fe(t that the City should have one project in hand in order to
key offthe location of the road.
The Council discussed the timin~ of the Moarn project, and the
Administrator pointed out that the decision whether to move forward with
this project or not will have to be made soon given the timeframe one of
Moarn's prospective tenants has to deal with. The Administrator
anticipated that the Council will know by its December 17`h meeting
whether or not the Moarn project will proceed.
Morelan asked if the Moarn project does not proceed if the Council would
agree that a new road would serve as a catalyst for redevelopment. The
Administrator felt the new road may aid redevelopment, however, it would
be better to accommodate the road to a development project.
Fahey su~gested that Sherman Rutzick may have a commercial proposal
that combines senior housing for the south side of Little Canada Road, and
that Chris Moarn may have an office building proposal on the north side
