MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 11, 1999
Fahey recommended that trees be planted on the west side of the rink to
provide screening. Morelan noted that in the previous CUP approval, the
Council retained the right to address screening if there was a need to do
so.
Fahey asked if Cossack had plans to develop the area west of the boot
hockey court. Cossack replied that he did not. Again, Cossack
commented that he would plant shrubs to screen the court.
Fahey noted that the property is adjacent to a high-density residential use
and felt that ever~reens were a more appropriate screening. Moretan
noted that in the original CUP the City Planner recommended screening.
However, the Council did not require screening given the location of the
court. The Council did retain the right to require screening in the future if
necessary. Morelan felt that relocating the boot hockey court to the north
of the volleyball court impacted more units at the adjacent condominiums.
Therefore, he felt screening should be required at this time.
Fahey pointed out that in 10 to I S yea~s time evergreens would provide a
veiy good buffer that will be to the long-term benefit of everyone.
Pedersen asked if Cossack planned to retain the area west of the court as a
grassy area. Cossack replied that he would fill, level, and seed this area.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RE.SOI,UTIONNO. 99-5-111-APPROVINC THEAMENDMENT TO
THE CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT FOR GORDIES AI,I.OW/NG
RELOCATION OF THE I300T HOCKEY COURT NORTH OF THE
EXISTING vOLLEYI3AI I, COURT AS .4HOWN ON THE SITE PLAN
PRESENTED, SUI3.lECT TO SUI3MISSION OF A SATISFACTORY
SCREENING PI,AN SHOWINC, I.OCATION OF PLANTING.S A.S
APPROVED 13Y CITY STAFF AND .SU73JECT TO THE
REQUIREMENT THAT ALI.
