MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 22, 1999
that the City can consider neighborhood factors as well as the Comp Plan
in making its decision.
There was no one from the general public present wishing to comment on
this matter.
Upon motion by Morelan, seconded by Scalze, the public hearing was
closed.
Buetow noted that at the Planning Commission some of the adjacent
property owners raised concerns about property values. Buetow indicated
that he would like to put up a new building, which will be aesthetically
pleasin~;. The new building would be tied into the existing house. The
entire structure would have a stucco exterior. The outdoor storage would
then be brought inside.
Morelan pointed out that the Comp Plan designated the future use ofthis
prope~ty as residential. Even though the addition described to the house
sounds like it would be an improvement to the property, Morelan pointed
out that it does not reflect the City's Land Use Plan. Morelan sug~ested
that the City may need to rezone the property. He indicated that it doesn't
make sense for the City to allow improvements to this property. Morelan
suggested that perhaps the City can assist in relocating this business to
another area of the City.
Buetow pointed out the Arcade Electric use that is adjacent to his
prope~ty.
LaValle staYed that until Arcade Electric and its metal buildings are gone,
the Buetow propeity is not a good residential property.
Fahey suggested that the City should not expand the I-1 use of this
property, and suggested that perhaps the City should allow the use to
continue as it is with no up~rades to the property.
Buetow asked if the City would consider allowing the outdoor storage for
a couple of years until he was able to find another location.
Fahey agreed that perhaps the City should try to relocate this business to a
more appropriate use. Buetow was concerned about getting another
location at a comparable cost.
Fahey pointed out that the CUP is being the Council this evening and
noted the Planning Commission's recommendation for denial.
13
