1VIINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 11, 1999
CUP FOR
OPEN AND
OUTDOOR
STORAGE
3104
EDGERTON -
BUETOW
Fahey noted that consideration of the request for a Conditional Use Permit
for open and outdoor storage of equipment as an accessory use at 3104
Ed~erton Street is before the Council this evening. It was noted that the
City Planner submitted a report dated July 14, 1999 relative to the Comp
Plan direction that this site be guided for residential development. Fahey
suggested that the Council first consider the CUP application, and that the
Planner's recommendation that the property be rezoned to R-1 be discussed
at a future meeting. Fahey noted that the Planning Commission recommended
denial of the CUP since the outdoor storage could not be adequately screened
from the public right-of-way.
Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RE.SOI. UTION NO. 99-8-20I - DENYING THE CONDITIONAI. USE
PERMIT FOR OPENAND OUTDOOR STORAC:E OF EQUIPMENT AS
ANACCESSORY USE AT 3104 EDCERTON STREET AS REQUESTED
I3YMR R073ERT BUETOWAS RECOMMENDED BY THE PI.ANNING
COMMISSION I3ASED ON THE FACT THAT THE STORAGE AREA
COUI.D NOT BE ADEQUATELY SCREENED FROM THE PUBI.IC
RIGHT-OF-WAY
The foregoin~ resolution was duly seconded by Fahey.
Ayes (3) Morelan, Fahey, Pedersen.
Nays (1) LaValle. Resolution declared adopted.
Fahey asked about the Planner's recommendation that the property be rezoned.
Morelan felt that the long-term solution for this property would be to rezone it.
Robert Buetow pointed out that without the outdoor storage he will not be able
to operate his business from this site. Buetow also commented that they offered
to comply with whatever conditions the City felt necessary to place on the
property as part of a CUP approval.
Fahey replied that outdoor storage is not appropriate for this site given the
storage could not be screened. Fahey stated that the Buetows can continue to
operate their business from 3104 Edgerton Street; however, they would not be
able to have outdoor storage.
Buetow pointed out that they had offered to construct a buildin~ so that their
equipment and materials could be stored inside.
The City Administrator indicated that alternatives such as a storage building
would make sense if the property were to remain zoned Industrial. However,
