MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 11, 1999
Fahey stated that he agreed with Valento's point that the City must comply with
its ordinances. City staff is aware of the deficiencies at the City Garage site and
are taking the appropriate steps to bring this site into compliance.
The City Administrator indicated that there is inadequate parking at the City
Garage and additional parking spaces will be added. There will also be
improvements made to the screening of outdoor storage and storage areas will
be modified. With regard to the access along Country Drive, the City's
ordinance states that access can exceed the 24-foot maximum if the wider
driveway is approved by the City Engineer. The Administrator noted that when
the City improved Country Drive, the City En~ineer approved the plans and
specs for the improvement that included the wider drive access for the City
Garage. The Administrator also noted that the Garage is located in a Public
Zoning District that has some different standards than the Industrial District.
Valento reported that it is very difficult for some of the properties in Ryan
Industria( Eark to meet the City's parkin~; requirements. Valento also reported
that there is no need for 26 parking spots at 3176 Spruce Street. At most there
are 8 to 10 cars at the site at any given time.
Valento showed another picture. This was of the Old Fire Hall. That picture
showed vehicles parked on the ~rass at the Old Fire Hall rather than in
designated parkin~ spaces. The City Administrator reported that the Old Fire
Hall meets the City's parkin~ requirements. The vehicles parked on the ~rass
are those of summer workers, and they will be informed that they must park in
the parking lot.
Valento indicated that he had earlier provided some misinformation with re~ard
to the use of the building at 3179 Spruce Street. He had informed the Zoning
Administrator that there were six employees working in this building when, in
fact, there are four. Based on this revised information, the parking requirement
has been recalculated and there are 11 parkin~ spaces required. Valento
reported that he will pave and stripe the 11 parking spaces as required.
Valento further reported that the two semi-trailers that have been stored at the
site will be removed. The first one will be removed tomorrow and the second
one removed within a month.
Morelan asked about the change in the parking requirement. The Zoning
Administrator indicated that Mr. Valento indicated there was an error in the
original site plan. There is less office space than what was first reported and
fewer employees. Based on the new information, 11 parking spaces are
required.
