MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 13,1999
LaValle asked if a rolling gate was an option for the City Garage storage
areas. LaValle pointed out that this would eliminate a swinging gate that
swings into the public right-of-way. The Director agreed that this might
be an option, however, the gate wil( still need to be screened.
Morelan asked if there were any other City property locations for the
wood chip pile. It was felt that a park location would not be practical.
LaValle suggested that the City would not allow a business in the City to
have a pile like this without screening. LaValle suggested that the pile
either be moved to a location where it could be screened, or discontinued.
Fahey pointed out that the City Garage property is an existing lot of
record, and the City would allow the use of the property whether it was the
City who owned it or a private business.
Morelan felt there was justification for allowing the wood chip pile
without screening but suggested there is the concern of consistency.
Scalze pointed out that the wood chip pile exists for the benefit of the
community. Morelan stated that he wanted to be sure there was no other
place to put it where it could be screened.
Scalze suggested that she would rather not use the variance procedure for
addressing these sorts of issues on City property.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 99-IO-178 - TABLING ACTION ON THE
CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT FOR OPEN AND OUTDOOR
STORAGE OF MATERIALS AS AN ACCESSORY USE FOR THE
CITY GARAGE AT 3I00 COUNTRY DRIVE PENDING A
RECOMMENDATION FROM STAFF RELATIVE TO AN
ORDINANC~ AMENDMENT OR ANOTHER MEANS POR
ADDRESSING THE SCREENING ISSUE FOR THE GATE AND
THE WOOD CHIP PILE AT THE CITY GARAGE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Fahey, LaValle, Pedersen, Morelan, Scalze.
Nays (0).
