MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JULY 239 2025 <br />Mayor Fischer asked about the status of the Spooner Park improvements and whether those are <br />substantially completed prior to Canadian Days. The City Administrator confirmed that the work is <br />substantially complete prior to Canadian Days. <br />The Finance Director noted upcoming budget meetings and reviewed the historical City tax rate and <br />comparisons to neighboring communities. <br />Miller referenced the trash hauler contract they started this year and commented that he believes the <br />changes made and the contract negotiated seem to be working well. He complimented staff for the <br />vision and work. <br />Gutierrez asked for more information on public safety, specifically the differences between Police and <br />Fire costs. The Finance Director provided more specific information on Police and Fire costs. <br />Mayor Fischer introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOL UTION/ / ,D QUAR , FEVANCIAL <br />REPORT <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Gutierrez. <br />Ayes (4). Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />ACCEPT RESIGNATION OF JOE STEELE <br />The City Clerk stated that Joe Steele has submitted his resignation, and August 8th will be his last day <br />of work. She recognized him for 46 years of service to the City of Little Canada, noting that he has <br />had a large part in ensuring that Public Works has run as smoothly as it has. She noted that he is the <br />first of two Public Works employees that they will be losing to retirement this year. She commented <br />that they are sad to see him go, but wish him well in retirement. <br />Mayor Fischer commented that Joe is always willing to stop and talk to let him know what is going on. <br />He stated that they have had some great conversations, and he believes that they respond well to the <br />information provided by City staff in order to improve things. He thanked Joe for his many years of <br />service and wished him well in his retirement. <br />Mayor Fischer introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2025- 7-116 — A CCEPTING THE LETTER OF RESIGNA TION FROM <br />JOE STEELE EFFECTIVE A UGUST 8, 2025 <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Gutierrez. <br />Ayes (4). Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />APPROVE HIRE OF CHARLES LEHN AS PUBLIC WORKS MAINTENANCE I WORKER <br />The City Clerk stated that with Joe's retirement, they are now moving into hiring. She commented that <br />Public Works is currently short-staffed and therefore, they published and advertised for Public Works <br />positions. She stated that all the candidates were great and the staff has decided to hire two candidates, <br />Con <br />
