915.120 Exterior Storage – Residential <br />A. General Standards <br />All exterior storage of materials, equipment, or vehicles in residential zoning districts must <br />comply with the standards of this section, unless expressly allowed by another provision of this <br />Code. <br />B. Permitted Unscreened Storage <br />The following items may be stored outdoors without screening, subject to the noted conditions: <br />1. Clothesline poles and wires. <br />2. Recreational equipment (e.g. bikes, sports nets, play structures, etc.). <br />3. Construction and landscaping materials and equipment currently being used on the <br />premises, for up to sixty (60) days. <br />4. Dumpsters or other waste containers may be stored outdoors for a period not exceeding <br />thirty (30) days, unless used for an active construction project. For construction -related use, <br />dumpsters may be stored for up to one hundred eighty (180) days. Both time limits may be <br />extended in writing at the discretion of the Zoning Administr ator. All containers shall be <br />emptied at intervals of no more than thirty (30) days and shall be removed when not in use . <br />5. Temporary moving containers being used for current household relocation, for a period of <br />no more than thirty (30) days. <br />6. Trash receptacles provided that such bins are kept within five (5) feet from the edge of the <br />house or garage. Screened trash enclosures may be located within fifteen (15) feet of the <br />right of way line of the street. Trash receptacles may be kept at the street for up to twenty - <br />four (24) hours before and after th e scheduled collection day. <br />C. Screening <br />Exterior storage in residential zoning districts must be screened from view from adjacent <br />properties or public rights -of-way, unless otherwise exempted in this section. <br />1. Screening may consist of a privacy fence or wall subject to the standards of Section <br />915.130. Landscaping materials, such as arborvitaes, may also be used . <br />2. All required screening must be at least six (6) feet in height and provide a minimum of <br />ninety (90%) year-round opacity along the entire length of the storage area. <br />3. Screening is also required for recreational vehicles or trailers stored under carports, <br />canopies, or other partially enclosed accessory structures. This requirement applies to any <br />open side of the structure, except when the vehicle or trailer is located in the side or rear <br />yard, set back at least forty (40) feet from t he front property line, and the open side faces <br />the public right-of-way. <br />D. Vehicle Storage in Residential Areas <br />1. Location and Surface Requirements <br />a. All passenger and commercial vehicles stored outdoors must be located on a paved <br />driveway or parking pad in accordance with Section 915.060. <br />b. Recreational vehicles, boats, trailers, and similar vehicles may be stored on an unpaved <br />surface in the side or rear yard if they comply with all applicable screening <br />requirements under subsection (C).
