MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 9, 2009
scheduling of a Council Meeting on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at
730 p.m. Staff is also recommending that the Council call for a Public
Hearing to consider adoption of the 2010 Budget on December 16°i.
It was noted that there will be at least one additional Budget workshop
prior to the December 16°i Public Hearing.
Mr. Keis introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2009-9-2I2 -CANCELLING THE DECEMBER 9
AND 23, 2009 REGULAR COUNCIL, MEETINGS AND
SCHEDULING A COUNCIL MEETING FOR WEDNESDAY,
DECEMBER 16, 2009 AT 7:30 P.M., AND CALLING A PUBLIC
HEARING FOR ADOPTION OF THE 2010 BUDGET AT THE
DECEMBER 16rH COUNCIL MEETING
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Blesener.
Ayes (4).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
llEER CONTROL The City Administrator reviewed his report dated September 4, 2009
relative to deer control options. The Administrator reported that he met
with John Moriarty of Ramsey County Parks (coordinates deer hunting for
control purposes for Ramsey County and a number of Ramsey County
cities) and Bob Whiting of the Metro Bowhunters Kesource Base
(MBRB). They reviewed the potential sites wherein the MBRB could do
a controlled hunt. These include the Waterworks/St.John's/City site south
of Little Canada Road as well as potentially 2966 Arcade Street. There is
the potential for another site owned by the City of Maplewood and an
adjacent piece owned by Kamsey County abutting the eastern boundary of
Little Canada that the County could coordinate with that Maplewood and
the MBRB.
The Administrator indicated that he talked to St. Paul Regional Water
Service and they would be willing allow a hunt on their property if
conducted by the MBRB. St. Paul Water has used this organization in the
past for deer hunts. The Administrator also indicated that the St. John's
Cemetery Committee is interested in a hunt on the cemetery property, and
the property owner at 2966 Arcade Street would allow a hunt.
The Administrator reviewed the key information relative to a hunt by
MBRB as outlined in his September 4`~' report. He noted that the group
would not be able to start hunting until late November or early December
due to other commitments. It may be necessary to have a special season
hunt after the first of the year.
6
