MINUTES

CITY COUNCIL

NOV>;MB>?R 23, 2009
went on to describe the signage plan proposed noting that it complies with
Code requirements.
Blesener asked if the bulk fertilizer and soil storage proposed would be
bagged product. Schwalbach replied that that is correct. He noted that the
outdoor display would be similar to what occurs in Hardware Hank's
present location. Blesener asked about the expansion of the equipment
rental portion of the business. Schwalbach replied that the types of
equipment rented would include lawn mowers, power rakes, tillers, log
sputters, etc.
Blesener noted the comment that the outdoor display fence would be taken
down during the winter months. Schwalbach replied that that was correct.
There is limited need for outdoor display space in the winter, and removal
of the fence would be helpful during snow plowing of the lot. Schwalbach
reported that pockets would be placed in the ground into which the fence
could be inserted. This will allow for easy installation and removal of the
fence.
Montour asked if signage would be mounted on raceways, indicating that
it was his feeling that the raceways should match the building to minimize
their visibility. Blesener noted the damage that has been done to the
Market Place Shopping Center building with the removal of individually
mounted signage letters each time a business vacates the shopping center.
Montour stated that he did not oppose the raceways provided they match
the building. Schwalbach described the signage. He indicated that the
Toro and Eco signage would be provided by these manufacturers,
therefore, he was unsure of what that signage would look like at this time.
Schwalbach stated that he would work to ensure that raceways match the
building. Schwalbach also indicated that the signage would comply with
the City's Architectural Guidelines.
'T'here was no one else present wishing to comment on this matter.
Upon motion by McCraw, seconded by Blesener, the public hearing was
closed.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2009-11-279 - APPROVING AN INTERIM USE
PERMIT ALLOWING OUTDOOR DISPLAY SPACE FOR LAWN
CARE ITEMS AND PROPANE EXCHANGE CAGE AS REQUESTED
BYJIMSCHWALBACH, HARDWARE HANK, 2920 RICE STREET,
SUBJECT TO COMPLIANCE WITH THE RECOMMENDATIONS
OF THE CITYPLANNER AS OUTLINED IN HIS NOVEMBER 9,
2009 REPORT AND SUBJECT THAT THE PROPERTY OWNER
5
