MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
APRIL 8, 2010
March 31, 2010 with the indication that the signage installation for Press
Gym must meet all City Code requirements.
Motion seconded by Barraclough.
Motion carried 6 - 1. Everson voted against.
PUD ZONING Mr. Rob Anderson, Poolside, appeared before the Commission
AND PERMITS - requesting the Rezoning of his property from General Business (B-3)
121 EAST to Planned Unit Development (PUD) as well as a PUD Permit for
COUNTY outdoor display area, and a PUD Permit for temporary outdoor
ROAD C - storage. Anderson noted he currently has outdoor storage in an area
POOLSIDE on the west wide of his property. Anderson reported that the Poolside
business has operated in its location and in the same mamrer for
approximately 30 years. He noted that was contacted by the Code
Enforcement Officer and informed that outdoor storage is not allowed in
the B-3 District, and indicated that he has had outdoor storage on his site
for 28 or 29 years. Anderson reported that their intention is to construct a
new building on the property that would include warehouse space.
Therefore, at this time he would like to continue to have the outdoor
storage area he has and does not want to spend a lot of money to do so.
Anderson described the property, including the outdoor storage area.
Anderson repor•Ced that the outdoor storage includes pallets, hot tubs, and
masonry products. He noted that there is a 6-foot fence along the west
property line, but indicated that it is unsightly. His plan is to take down
the fence, remove some tree growth within the fence line, and then
reinstall the fence. Screening would consist of a green mesh product that
would be installed on the inside of the fence.
Knudsen asked Anderson's timeline for building construction. Knudsen
felt that any outdoor storage use would have to be temporary, and he felt
that a timeline was necessary in order to grant the temporary outdoor
storage. Knudsen noted the City's efforts relative to cleaning up and
controlling outdoor storage. He indicated that Poolside has been a good
and long-standing business in the City, but stated that if there was no end
in sight for the outdoor storage, he would not be inclined to approve it.
Anderson reported that given the current business climate, he will need his
business performance for 2009 and 2010 to present to the bank for
financing for a new building. Anderson indicated that his plan would be
to construct a 3,500 to 4,000 square foot building and would tear down the
existing building. Anderson stated that without the outdoor storage at this
time, he may have to look at another location.
-5-
