MINUTES

CITY COUNCIL

APRIL 28, 2010
Relative to the raceway issue, Blesener noted that the raceway for The
Press Gym sign matches the brick color of the building. Blesener stated
that he would prefer the raceway rather than individual mounted letters
which would result in multiple holes in the building as tenants move in
and out.
Keis agreed the raceway looked fine for The Press Gym sign. Keis
indicated that he had questions about other tenant signage relative to
consistency. The City Administrator reviewed Council Member
Montour's comments that there should be consistency with the signage on
this building, and if the first sign is raceway mounted, then all the signs on
the building should be raceway mounted. Montour points out that one of
the signs on the Market Place Shopping Center is raceway mounted and
the others are not resulting in an inconsistent appearance.
The City Administrator pointed out that the issue of signage mounting
keeps coming up and noted that the City's Architectural Guidelines
discourage signage on raceways. The Administrator suggested that
perhaps this issue should be addressed by ordinance rather than in the
Architectural Guidelines.
Keis noted that he had questions for the applicant relative to issues of
signage consistency, height, and size. Keis felt that action on the
Comprehensive Sign Plan should be tabled until the property owner can be
present to answer these questions. There was discussion of the timing, and
it was noted that the matter could be tabled until the May 12°i Council
meeting, or the May 26°' Council meeting if a 60-Day Waiver were signed
by the property owner. The City Administrator pointed out that The Press
Gym signage is currently permitted by temporary sign permit. That permit
may have to be extended.
Mr. Keis introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOL UTION NO. 2010-4-103 -CONTINUING THE PUBLIC
HEARING ON THE COMPREHENSIVE SIGN PLAN FOR 80
LITTLE CANADA ROAD UNTIL THE MAY 12, 2010 COUNCIL
MEETING, AND IF REQUESTED BY THE PROPERTY OWNER,
TABLING THE MATTER UNTIL THE MAY 26, 2010 COUNCIL
MEETING PROVIDED THAT THE PROPERTY OWNER SIGNA
SIXTY-DAY WAIVER
1'he foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Boss.
Ayes (3).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
4
