MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
Jane 3, 2010
GRAFFITI ORDINANCE
Morelan stated he had requested copies of graffiti ordinances from surrowiding cities and the
League of Minnesota Cities. Morelan will put together a draft for our city from the examples
he has received and email the draft to all commissioners. "I'he commission would then
approve and send the request to the city council to propose adoption as a city ordinance.
A city staff member had removed the graffiti that was noticed on the playground equipment
at Rondeau Park, but the graffiti was put back up again on the same equipment. Morelan
said he would have it removed again.
OLD
BUSINESS THUNllER BAY PARK IMPROVEMENTS STATUS
Morelan reported the installation of the new playground equipment has been completed. The
installers were on site for four days, finishing on .tune 1 S`. They added a sand area that was
not in the original plan. They will modify the wal]<ing trail to accommodate the change.
Morelan said he has received many comments and emails from the neighborhood residents
commenting on how much they appreciate the new look and equipment. I-Ie received an
email from Amy Berg stating she has never seen so many families at the park before and
that the improvements to the park have added so much to the neighborhood. She wished to
thank the city, the Park & Recreation Commissioners and the Little Canada Recreation
Association, as the neighborhood loves the new park!
PIONEER PARK ENTRANCE ENHANCEMENTS/PLANTERS
Sanders stated he and Morelan are working on this project. "They will be pouring some
concrete to use as bases for the city planters as they are too heavy and the planters would
bow the pavers that were initially recommended to use. Sa~lders said they intend to keep it to
a simple pattern.
Chair Fahey reported the perem~ials are growing nicely in the pa~•k. Morelan stated the
Ramsey/Washington Metro Watershed District employees have done some work in the park
since the last commission meeting.
Sanders said the planters would probably work by the driveway entrance or east of the
parking lot. Steinwall asked what would be used to fill the planters. Morelan said sand

" would be put in the bottom to fill most of the planter. They will use the new jelly type of
Miracle Gro with the annual plants.
OTHER Sanders stated the new Firefighters "I"rail sign has been installed near the entrance oi'the ri~ail
behind the Piro Station on Centerville Road. Another bench will also be placed along that
trail.
